岩本昆寛は様々な鳥の図を遺しているが、この図を好んでいたようだ。複数の似た図がある。丸々とした鶫の姿が特に愛らしい。赤銅魚子地高彫色絵。

Iwamoto Konkan left behind many pictures of birds, but this one seems to have been his favourite. There are several similar pictures. The plump thrush is particularly adorable. Shakudo Nanako ground with high-level engraving and coloured painting. Fuchi & Gashira is suitable Wakizashi and Katana

されています。岩本紺冠 (1744-1801) は、ヘインズの日本刀の金具と関連アーティストの索引に記載されています。ページ 716-717。今寛は、初代良寛の弟子であり養子であり、二代目良寛の跡継ぎであり、岩本家五代目当主であった。彼はより大きな岩本流を設立し、当初は横谷流と奈良流の両方で活動していました。

Iwamoto Konkan (1744-1801) is listed in the Haynes Index of Japanese Sword Fittings and Associated Artists on p. 716-717. Konkan was the student and adopted son of the first Ryokan, heir to the second Ryokan, and fifth master of the Iwamoto family. He founded the larger Iwamoto school and originally worked in both the Yokoya and Nara school styles.

岩本今閑は江戸時代後期に活躍した刀装具の名工で、岩本良閑に師事し、岩本家の六代目となりました。岩本流はもともと横谷流に属していましたが、今閑は奈良流の技法を取り入れ、独自の作風を確立しました。
本作は四分一七小地の象嵌細工で、鳥が止まり木や飛び交う様子や、ススキに戯れる様子などが、写実的かつ立体的に表現されています。

Iwamoto Konkan was a renowned metalsmith of sword fittings in the late Edo period. He studied under Iwamoto Ryokan and became the sixth-generation successor of the Iwamoto family. The Iwamoto school originally belonged to the Yokoya school of metalworkers, and Konkan incorporated techniques from the Nara school to establish his own unique style.
This work features inlays on a shibuichi nanako-ji with birds roosting and flying above while others playfully hang from Susuki (Plume grass). depicted in a realistic and three-dimensional manner.
