The judgment on the authentic as expressed in the description above was confirmed by “Nippon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyokai” (NBTHK) issuing a Menuki “特別保存刀装具鑑定書” Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu Kanteisho” certificate number: 222205.

Provided on 平成七年四月二十日.  Heisei shichi nen shi gatsu ni ju hi (April 20, 1995).

In my opinion an absolute candidate for (重要刀装具) Juyo Tosogu papers.

歴史 History

This kozuka 小塚 was made by Gotō Mitsuhiro 後藤光煕, he was born in the year Tenmei hachi nen 天明八年, 1788 and died in the year Ansei san nen 安政 三年, 1856

His family name is Gotō 後藤, as a personal name he used Umesaburō 梅三郎 and Jisaemon 次左衛門. As a artist name he used the name Zejō 是乗.

He is the eldest son of Gotō Jūjō 後藤重乗, the Yondai 四代 (4th Gen.) of the Gotō Shichirōuemon lineage 後藤七郎右衛門 and elder brother of Gotō Ichijirō 後藤一治郎. He was adopted by Gotō Jōchi 後藤乗智 de Yondai 四代 (4th Gen.) of the Gotō Jisaemon lineage 後藤次左衞門. He succeeded his adoptive father as head of this line and thus became the Godai 五代 (5th Gen.).
